1. Writer’s Building –
Writer’s building is the secretariat building of the State Government of West Bengal, But people who work there don’t want to stay there after sunset. Do you know Why?
Writer’s building was designed by Thomas Lyon in 1777 to accommodate the junior servants of the East India Company known as “Writers”. People in that building had felt paranormal activity several times like a sudden drop in temperature, automatically lights turning on and off, heard of footsteps from block number 5. The guards of the building have said that they have heard the sounds of someone screaming from the top floor. On 8th December 1930, Indian revolutionary Benoy Basu, Badal Gupta, and Dinesh Gupta headed to Writer’s building with a loaded revolver and killed Colonel N. S. Simpson. It is also said that before the building was build there was a banana forest in that place where many innocent people were killed and buried by the British people.

2. The National Library –
The national library of India is the largest library in the country has more than 2.2 million books, it was built in 1836 at that time it was known as Calcutta Public Library, later in 1953, it is called as The National Library of India. But the largest library of India is also one of the most haunted places in Kolkata.
The Governor-General Charles Metcalf’s wife Lady Metcalf had died an unnatural death in the Library. After that, the guards and many people had seen paranormal activity in that library. according to the guards and the people, they have heard footsteps on the stairs going to the ground floor, many have felt that someone’s breath on their neck. No one stays there at night. Now the entire library has shifted to another building known as the Bhasa Bhawan, and the main building is now a museum. There was one more strange incident happened during the renovation of the library 12 workers who were inside the library died at a time, the workers who were outside said that they have heard a strange sound from inside the building and when they went inside all 12 workers were dead.
Interesting Fact - While Renovating the building they found a secret chamber in the Library that has no doors and no windows. Till now no one knows what the chamber was used for and what is there inside it.

3. Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station –
Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station is one of the busiest metro stations in Kolkata, but do you know that people try to avoid the station at night. This metro station has the most number of suicide cases than any other place in Kolkata. People in Kolkata avoid taking the last train which is at 10:12 PM. It is said that many people have seen shadows on the station when they are waiting for the last train. Many have heard peculiar noises from the metro tunnel. Due to the maximum number of suicides in the station, it is also called as the “Paradise of Suicides.”

4. Putul Bari –
Putul bari or the House of dolls, by the name only one can say that it is not a normal place. More than 100 years old the house looks very spooky when you visit it. People have heard women screaming and laughing from the top floor of the house, and the scariest thing about this is, no one stays in the top two floors even in fact the top floors are locked and no one is allowed to go there. only a few people live on the ground floor but they never go upstairs. It is said that the Babus(wealthy people of society) exploited young women sexually for their pleasure and till now the souls of those women roam on the top floors of Putul Bari.

5. Ghats Under Howrah Bridge –
Howrah Bridge is one of the best places from where you get an amazing view of river Ganga and the city of joy, Kolkata. But do you know, the ghat under Howrah bridge is a place where you can experience paranormal activity at the night. It is a place where many people have committed suicide by jumping on the river. People claimed that they have seen hands asking for help, right above the water surface as if someone is drowning but the scariest thing is those who have gone there to rescuing they themself got drown in the river. Many people have also seen a lady in white clothes calling by their names in a strange voice. It is said that these are the spirit of those who have committed suicides in that place.

6. Park Street Cemetery –
Build-in 1767 Park Street Cemetery is the oldest burial ground in Kolkata. Most of the graves in the cemetery belongs to the British soldiers. 1796Many people have claimed that they have experience unnatural behavior inside the cemetery like shadows moving, misfunctioning of the camera, strange sounds. In fact, once a group of friends had noticed some weird shadows in the pictures that they have clicked, and of the them had a serious asthma attack. People who live beside the cemetery, they close their window during night time so that they don’t get a direct view of the cemetery.
Interesting fact - The first grave of the cemetery (Grave - 363) has no name and details in the tombstone. It is an anonymous tomb. In fact, the guards and the caretaker also refuse to tell the story of that tomb. But according to some sources, it is said that the tomb belongs to a lady whose name was Mrs.S.Pearson.

7. Wipro Office in Saltlake –
Wipro office is in salt lake, which is the IT hub of Kolkata. But in this new era of modern tech, the employees of Wipro do believe that something unnatural thing is present on the 3rd floor of tower 3 in the Wipro campus. According to some Wipro Employee and the guards, they have seen unusual activity during night times like Switching on the computer on its own, strange sounds from the washrooms, shadows on the wall, moving chairs, and the files on its own. The local people have said that before the building was constructed there was a graveyard on that place that had witnessed several rapes and murders.

8. Hasting’s House –
Hastings House was built for former Governor-General William Hasting, now it is a Women’s College under Calcutta University. In this house or college whatever you call it, people have seen strange unusual things like some people have seen a horse carriage entering from the gate and a man then getting inside the house, some people have heard the sound of horses. the former governor-general William hasting was impeached for several cases and the trial case continues for seven years till he was proven not guilty, it is said that the spirit of William hasting who comes to his house in searching for some papers which will protect him against impeachment.

9. Calcutta Royal Turf Club –
Calcutta Royal Turf Club is the oldest Horse-Racing Club in Kolkata, and also one of the most mysterious places in Kolkata. In the mid-30s there was a horse racing maniac whose name was George Williams, he had 5 highly trained horses but among them, his dearest horse was a pearl white horse named Pride. For William, Pride was more valuable than anything in his life, and pride have also won many races for him. But one day pride could not win one of the most important derby race. On the next day, Pride was down dead on the royal turf club, some say that William himself killed his loved horse Pride. but after Pride’s death, many people including the guards of the club have said that they have seen a white horse on the racecourse at night mostly on a new moon, it is said that it is the spirit of Pride who run across the turf club.

10. Lower Circular Road Cemetery –
Lower Circular Road Cemetery is just located 300 m away from Park street Cemetery, and this around 2 times larger than park street cemetery. In this cemetery, many people have claimed that they have experienced paranormal activity in certain parts of the cemetery. In this cemetery, there is a grave of a British government officer named William Hay MacNaghten, who was killed brutally in the anglo afghan war. The leftover body had been brought and buried in this Lower Circular Road Cemetery. People say that the soul of William hay MacNaghten is still alive and whenever someone narrates his story in front of his tombstone the tree beside his grave starts shivering. The guards of the Cemetery says that they often heard strange noise from inside the cemetery at night times.

11. Nimtala Crematorium-
Apart from being one of the oldest burning ghats of Kolkata Nimtala Crematorium is also one of the haunted places in Kolkata. And this is the best place where you can experience dark energy. Have you ever seen an Aghori? well if no then let me tell you an Aghori are a small group of ascetic Shaiva sadhus. They engage in post-mortem rituals. At the night of Kali puja, Aghoris come to the Nimtala Crematorium and they eat the already burned corpses and coat the ash on themselves and perform many rituals to generate occult powers in themselves. It is said that during this time it is very dangerous for a light-hearted person to visit Nimtala Crematorium.
